Course Description:

Grade 8 Life Science is an introduction to life sciences and our environment. Topics include: classification of life, cell structure and function, evolution, genetics, human body systems, and ecology. Students read, write, analyze, predict, and research information throughout the school year in a variety of activities. Through class assignments, we will also build skills like note-taking, organization, problem solving, and time management. In addition to the daily science class, students participate in science lab. Science lab meets approximately ten days per quarter. In science lab, students will become familiar with the scientific method through an inquiry-based lab experience. An inquiry-based lab experience is one designed and implemented by the student in order to answer a specific problem question.
